Certification Of Biosafety Cabinets in Southern California

Why are Biosafety Cabinets Important?

Interactions with the hazardous pathogens and infectious microorganisms cannot be performed in an open environment. In order to limit the exposure to these pathogens, Biosafety cabinets are used in industrial and scientific organizations. Biosafety cabinets are ventilated, enclosed workspaces designed specifically to allow scientists and biologists to interact, observe and manipulate microorganisms without polluting the environment and air around themselves.

Various professional organizations provide certification of Biosafety cabinets in Southern California and ensure a smooth hazard free environment for the workers. There are basically three types of biosafety cabinets, depending upon the nature of biocontainment required. These biosafety cabinets are only allowed to utilize HEPA filtered air. HEPA filtered air ensures the removal of all harmful bacteria and pathogens before exiting the air through the duct, into the environment.Intake of air is also maintained by motor driven blowers (fans). These special precautions and fans maintain the integrity of the product and remove the risk of cross contamination.

Tests included in Professional Certification:

The certification of biosafety cabinets in Southern California include a spectrum of professional tests including, but not limited to Downflow testing, Inflow testing and HEPA filter integrity testing. Downflow testing certifies the pollution and contamination free flow of air inside the cabinets, surrounding the product. This, in turn, makes sure that the pathogen inside the cabinet remains contamination free and the properties of the pathogen are not altered in any way. Inflow testing ensures the safety of the operator, environment and the product. The air being expelled is observed for presence of harmful microorganisms and pathogens being tested. This test makes sure that the inflow air doesn’t pollute the environment and the operator with the pathogens inside the cabinet.

One more test is known as HEPA filter integrity testing, which monitors the safety, functionality and integrity of the HEPA filter in place for decontaminating the air intake and inflow. This test ensures that the air being used inside and outside the biosafety cabinet is being cleansed, filtered and decontaminated properly, in order to rid the risk of cross contamination. The certification of biosafety cabinets in Southern California also include site installation testing, which performs smoke visualization and alarm calibration. Smoke visualization test provides the guarantee that no unwanted and foreign substances or particles are contaminating the source environment. In case of detection of any foreign particle, an audio visual alarm alerts the operator of this anomaly, so that proper precautions can be taken. Furthermore, sound, visual and fluorescent lighting testing is also included in certification of biosafety cabinets in Southern California.
